Abstract

The preliminary investigation of this article presents the experiences of cohousing and social
mediation in which Young intellectual disabilities people and university students live together.
In addition, it describes the results of a questionnaire aimed at detecting the opinion of university
students on intellectual disability and life habits. The results highlight the fundamental role of
social mediation that Italian universities, the third sector and public institutions could play in
promoting access to adult life. Finally, the importance of encouraging innovative forms of
teaching in line with international guidelines (EFA, 2015; SDGs, UN, 2030; Global Education 2030;
OECD 2018; Council Europe 2019) to promote future directions that can contribute to development,
in terms of environmental, social, economic sustainability and shared solidarity
