This contribution analyzes the introduction of artificial intelligence in educational settings, highlighting both the educational opportunities and the risks associated with an uncritical use of technology. Based on a study conducted with 185 students within the framework of the PNRR programs at the University of Sannio, a hands-on lab experience using Google's Teachable Machine is presented as a useful tool to introduce basic concepts of machine learning. The SWOT analysis revealed strengths such as accessibility, simplicity, and cost-free use, as well as limitations related to scalability and data quality. A significant example is the training of a model for the recognition of Italian Sign Language. The article emphasizes the importance of a critical and inclusive approach to the use of artificial intelligence, capable of fostering creativity, awareness, and digital citizenship.
