Observations on Antonio Tabucchi’s Il gioco del rovescio, Las Meninas by Velázquez and Foucault (and, inevitably, on Pessoa)

Abstract

Il gioco del rovescio (1981) stands as one of the most evocative tales within Antonio Tabucchi’s entire collection of short stories. The article proposes a focus on the complex and broad network of transtextual and intermedial relations that structure the famous story, in the belief that a multidisciplinary approach is essential to try to solve some of the enigmas that lie behind the dizzying game of mirrors that gives it its peculiar physiognomy.
