Abstract

Little is known about how well Pascoli knew Gozzano, a rising star in the last years of Pascoli’s life. What is certain is that Gozzano sent Pascoli a copy of La via del rifugio with a dedication, manuscript corrections and annotations. Through a mutual friend, Vico Fiaschi, he also sent a copy of La signorina Felicita, printed in «La Nuova Antologia». The study of these documents extends to the reconstruction of Gozzano’s ‘approaching-strategy’ towards Pascoli, in a phase of Gozzano’s life and work that saw him very close not only to Fiaschi, but also to Tomaso Monicelli, director of «Il Viandante», a magazine in which two poems were published, L’esperienza and L’ipotesi, that are very close to La signorina Felicita. The study is completed with the analysis of Gozzano’s poetic texts in the Fiaschi Collection of the ‘Stefano Giampaoli’ Library in Massa.
