Abstract

Laura Cereta from Brescia (15th century) left a collection of letters written in Latin, where addresses various topics, from the need to make customs more moral to the criticism against those, men and women, who attacked her to the demonstration of her broad humanistic culture and her knowledge of the ancient world. Two of her letters have been chosen to demonstrate her intellectual strength, her ability as a writer and her desire to support the need for women’s education, so that they can escape the condition of inferiority in which they were kept in her time. Laura is therefore considered a proto-feminist.
