Abstract

This paper analyzes the key role of the school library in education, highlighting its importance for developing Information Literacy and improving students' academic performance. While national and international studies confirm the positive impact of well-managed libraries on student achievement, the Italian system faces critical issues such as lack of institutionalization and continuous investment, as well as teachers' poor perception of the educational use of the library. To overcome these challenges, solutions are proposed including the creation of library networks, the use of appropriate software, and better library science training for teachers.
