"Civic Education. Forming responsible citizens who participate in the civil, cultural and social life of the community".

Deadline: abstracts must be submitted by the 28th of February 2022

 

Law no. 9 of August 20th, 2019, "Introduction of Civic Education to Schools" places knowledge of the Italian Constitution at the foundation of citizenship training. The Constitution of the Republic is presented as a pedagogical code full of ethical-legal values, articulated in rights and duties, tasks, personal and institutional behaviour for the complete development of the individual and the participation of all citizens in the political, economic, and social life of the country.

Three thematic cores of teaching outlined in the law (Annex A, Guidelines) and proposed for their in-depth pedagogical study in this call for papers:

1. CONSTITUTION, law (national and international), legality, and solidarity. Knowledge, reflection on the meanings, daily practice of the constitutional dictate (art. 4)

2. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, environmental education, knowledge, and protection of heritage and territory, sustainable development. Not only the protection of the environment and natural resources but also the construction of living environments, cities, the conscious choice of inclusive ways of life that respect people's fundamental rights (art. 3).

3. DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP, the ability to consciously and responsibly use digital means of communication (art. 5).
