Abstract

In 1970, Torquato Tasso’s Gerusalemme liberata narrated by Alfredo Giuliani. With a selection of the poem was published for the Gli Struzzi Einaudi series. On the one hand, the project responded to the publisher’s request to offer the general public of non-specialist readers a classic that is not easy to read, which people have given up reading since school days, and on the other hand it was in line with the experimental vocation of Gruppo 63, of which Giuliani was a member as a poet and as a critic. The essay reflects on the importance of twentieth-century rewritings of the classics both for the history of their different interpretations over time and for that, no less important, of their use in school.
