Abstract

School dropout and abandonment of education and training constitute a very important social and educational problem for Europe as they are linked to phenomena such as unemployment, social marginalization, poverty and immigration. The causes are various, such as personal and family problems, learning difficulties, schools' poor ability to intercept students' needs and motivate them to study. Being a common emergency, the problem of school dropout appears at the center of the education and training policies promoted by Italy, also in light of recent European actions to promote inclusive education and tackle early school leaving
