Abstract

Abbot Giuseppe Spalletti was one of the very few scholars who studied ancient
Greek in the second half of the XVIIIth century. He copied the whole
Palatine Manuscript of the Greek Anthology (apographon Gothanum) and
also collated it with Brunck’s Analecta Veterum Poetarum Graecorum now held
in the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense in Milan, as shown by the autograph
marginal notes in the volume. Evidence of his philological activity is to be
found in two letters he wrote to his Patron cardinal A. M. Durini (1725-
1796), transcribed and translated in the following paper for the first time.
