Servius’ commentary on Vergil has long been recognised as the main source for the high-medieval collection of fabulae known as the Mythographus Vaticanus I. This article aims to establish the relationships between the collection and another tradition of Vergilian exegesis enjoying some circulation between the 9th and the 10th century, namely the ‘Philargyrian’ tradition.
