XENOPH. FR. 45 W.2, PARAFRASI O ADESPOTUM FRAGMENTUM NOVUM

Abstract

This paper reconsiders the disputed authorship of Xenoph. fr. 45 W.2 (transmitted by a scholion on Hippocr. Epid. I 3,13[2] = Erot. fr. 14 Nachmanson), which is generally interpreted by scholars either as a (corrupted) fragment of a Xenophanean composition in iambic trimeters or as a later paraphrase of Xenoph. fr. 8,1s. W.2. As an alternative, the paper proposes that the alleged Xenophanean quotation may in fact conceal a fragmentum adespotum.
