Abstract

This paper focuses on the versatility of the use of Hades in the Homeric poems. The Underworld in the Homeric poems can be interpreted in the perspective of at least three literary dimensions: the metapoetic function, the diegetic aspect, and the geo-spatial component. This article aims at both describing this polyvalency of Hades in the Homeric poetry and highlighting the connections of these expressive modalities among each other.
