Abstract

This study, in commemoration of Giovanni Pascoli 110 years after his death, deals with Pascoli’s «Version from Italian in Latin» of a passage about the Moravian duke Suembaldus in the Istoria d’Italia by Pier Francesco Giambullari. Pascoli made this translation when he was a student at the University of Bologna. The article provides a new chronological reconstruction, investigates Pascoli’s relationship with his Latin teacher, and looks for references to Suembaldus in Pascoli’s Latin poetry.
