The paper deals with the debate about the crisis of classical teaching in Italy, with specific reference to the current situation of the Humanistic High School (Liceo classico). After a short survey of several studies (books and articles) about this topic, the paper tries to summarize the principal reasons of this crisis and to give some hints for the future.
