Abstract

The aim of this study is to speculate upon the plants which characterize
Philetas’ and Dionysophanes’ gardens described by Longus in his Daphnis
and Chloe. It will be highlighted that some trees and flowers, only
apparently hastily mentioned, have in fact a symbolic connotation and
foreshadow, from a narrative point of view, episodes which will be
subsequently related.
